PUBG Mobile is preparing to broaden its potential audience with PUBG Mobile Light, a new version designed specifically for players using less powerful smartphones. Pre-registration activity is now underway as publisher Krafton and its regional partners prepare the lighter battle-royale client for release later in 2026. The idea addresses an increasingly important contradiction in mobile gaming.
Phones at the premium end are capable of console-quality graphics, but hundreds of millions of players still use devices with limited storage, memory and processing power. Games that continually increase download sizes risk abandoning a substantial part of the market. PUBG Mobile Light is expected to reduce storage requirements and lower hardware demands while preserving the familiar battle-royale structure.
That could be particularly important in India, Southeast Asia, Latin America and other regions where competitive mobile games reach audiences across an enormous range of device prices. The challenge will be maintaining matchmaking, anti-cheat systems and competitive parity without creating the impression that Light users are participating in an inferior version of the same game.
