NetEase's Sea of Remnants remains one of the more distinctive cross-platform RPGs being showcased around Gamescom. Developed by Joker Studio, the game places players in the port of Orbtopia and a surrounding archipelago filled with unusual characters, ships and turn-based battles. The project is planned for mobile alongside PC and consoles and has been promoted through multiple demonstrations and stage appearances during Gamescom week.

Sea of Remnants is structurally interesting because it combines a large explorable world with turn-based combat rather than attempting the real-time action formula now common among premium-looking mobile RPGs. The development team has previously outlined an aggressive live-service plan built around new seasons roughly every ten weeks and major world expansions approximately every twenty weeks. That creates considerable expectations for content production.

The game's stylized pirate world should help it stand apart visually, but long-term success will depend on whether Orbtopia's many characters and activities feel genuinely interconnected. A final global release date remains one of the major pieces of information still outstanding.
