PocketBook Q makes a case for the pocket-sized E Ink reader

PocketBook has revealed the PocketBook Q, a compact E Ink reader built around a 5.84-inch screen and a form factor significantly smaller than most modern e-readers. The device is expected to receive a fuller showcase at IFA 2026 in Berlin. PocketBook is moving against the industry's recent trend toward larger screens designed for PDFs, comics and handwritten notes. Instead, the Q focuses on portability.

A smartphone already fits into the same general role, but E Ink offers advantages for prolonged reading: excellent outdoor visibility, minimal power consumption and freedom from the notifications that continually interrupt conventional phones. The product also taps into growing interest in focused single-purpose electronics. Consumers who spend all day on multifunction devices increasingly see value in hardware that deliberately does less. Pricing will determine whether that idea makes commercial sense.

If the Q costs close to a larger Kindle or Kobo, its smaller display could feel restrictive; at the right price, however, genuine pocketability could become the product's strongest feature.
