Fitbit founders unveil LTE-connected Luffu Link health band

Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have returned to wearable hardware with Luffu Link, a $250 LTE-connected health and safety band designed to work without a nearby smartphone. The wearable combines continuous health sensing, location awareness, voice logging and communication with trusted contacts. It complements Luffu's existing family-health application, which uses AI to organize information and identify meaningful changes over time.

The founders developed the concept partly from their own experiences caring for aging family members. That positions Link differently from a conventional smartwatch. It is not primarily trying to compete through applications, notifications or sports modes; instead it aims to give families a passive way to remain aware of a loved one's wellbeing without requiring constant check-ins.

The concept also raises important privacy questions because location and health information are among the most sensitive forms of personal data. Users need clear control over exactly what trusted contacts can access. Luffu Link is available for pre-order and is expected to begin shipping in early 2027.
