Nothing OS 5.0 beta brings Android 17 and a redesigned Glyph experience

Nothing OS 5.0's open beta is now active on Phone 3, giving users an early look at the company's Android 17 implementation. The update introduces a dedicated Glyph Interface app that centralizes lighting controls, expanded homescreen customization, adaptive colors derived from wallpapers and additional lockscreen clock designs. Nothing has also added tools related to screen-time awareness and its Essential AI functionality.

Android 17 contributes underlying platform improvements including broader dark-theme behavior, refreshed sharing functions and Google's latest emoji system. Software remains unusually important to Nothing's identity because the company lacks the manufacturing scale of Samsung, Xiaomi or Oppo. A recognizable interface therefore gives its hardware another source of differentiation beyond transparent backs and Glyph lighting.

Public beta software can contain bugs and is not appropriate for every primary device, but early testing gives Nothing more data before stable deployment. Older models including Phone 1 and several earlier devices are not included in the OS 5.0 upgrade path, making support policy an increasingly important consideration for buyers.
