Diablo Immortal's Cross-Server Bout of Realms moves into its preliminary stage today, August 31, following registration that ran from August 27 through August 30. Blizzard has reworked the tournament structure to reduce unnecessary matches while maintaining meaningful competition for teams still capable of advancing. The preliminary stage runs through September 4, followed by finals from September 7–11 and championship matches on September 13.
Competition takes place on the Tower Wars map, with Swiss-system pairing used during the opening phase. Competitive events like this are important for Diablo Immortal because the game has evolved far beyond its controversial 2022 launch into a mature mobile MMO with an established endgame audience. Structured cross-server competition provides highly invested players with reasons to continue refining character builds after ordinary PvE progression slows down.
Blizzard's decision to reduce the number of repetitive matches also reflects an increasingly important live-service lesson: more content is not automatically better if participation begins feeling like mandatory administration rather than entertainment.
