Albion Online prepares ACE anti-cheat for Android as mobile security becomes an MMO problem

Sandbox Interactive is preparing to integrate Tencent-backed ACE Anti-Cheat Standard into Albion Online's Android client during the third quarter. The partnership reflects how mobile security requirements change once a game shares an economy and competitive environment with PC players. Albion's market is largely controlled by users, meaning bots, automation and unauthorized tools can distort prices and progression for everyone rather than merely creating unfair individual matches.

Android is particularly challenging because it spans thousands of hardware configurations and allows substantially more system modification than closed consoles. ACE promotes protection across the broader game lifecycle, including client security and economic-risk management. The success of the implementation will be measured partly by what legitimate players do not notice. Anti-cheat software that causes battery drain, compatibility problems or false positives can become almost as disruptive as cheating itself.

Albion is therefore a useful test case for the future of cross-platform MMOs, where phones can no longer be treated as a separate security environment from desktop clients.
