Nothing OS 5.0 beta moves Phone 3 to Android 17 with a redesigned Glyph interface

Nothing OS 5.0's open beta is now running on Phone 3, bringing Android 17 together with a substantial refresh of Nothing's own interface. The update introduces a dedicated Glyph application, adaptive colours generated from wallpapers and wider home- and lock-screen customization. Nothing is also expanding its Essential AI tools, including experiments with Model Context Protocol support and on-device app creation.

The update matters because software identity is one of Nothing's strongest weapons against manufacturers with vastly larger supply chains. Transparent hardware attracts initial attention, but users need the operating system to remain distinctive after the novelty fades. Android 17 gives Nothing access to Google's latest platform improvements while the company layers its own design language on top.

The stable rollout is expected to proceed gradually across supported devices rather than reaching the full product range simultaneously. As Nothing's catalogue expands, the speed and duration of software support will increasingly become as important to buyers as Glyph lighting itself.
