Chinese memory manufacturer CXMT has started mass production of LPDDR6 mobile DRAM, with Xiaomi confirming that its upcoming 18 Fold will use the new memory alongside Xiaomi's in-house Xring O3 processor. The foldable is expected in September. LPDDR6 promises substantially higher bandwidth than existing mobile memory and is particularly relevant as smartphones attempt to run larger AI workloads locally.

Cameras, games and multitasking all depend increasingly on moving large volumes of data quickly without consuming excessive power. The announcement is also strategically important for China's semiconductor industry. Samsung and SK Hynix have historically dominated advanced mobile DRAM, so a domestic supplier entering the first commercial wave of LPDDR6 narrows a significant technology gap. Xiaomi's 18 Fold will provide a high-profile real-world test of performance, efficiency and production consistency.

Beginning mass production does not automatically guarantee high yields or enormous volume, but attaching the technology to a named flagship moves LPDDR6 from roadmap language into a genuine consumer product cycle.
