Samsung's decision to run the entire #PlayGalaxy Cup World Final on Galaxy S26 Ultra phones gives the company a useful real-world demonstration of a specification that is difficult to communicate in ordinary advertising: sustained thermal performance. Mobile processors can post exceptional benchmark numbers for a few minutes, but competitive games expose what happens after heat accumulates. Frame rates can fall dramatically if cooling is inadequate.
Samsung specifically highlighted thermal management in its August 31 tournament recap, suggesting the company views sustained gaming as a defining use case for the Ultra. That messaging reflects a wider change in flagship competition. Camera quality remains critical, but high-end Android phones increasingly need reasons for expensive processors to exist. Mobile games, emulation, video editing and local AI are among the few workloads capable of making the difference obvious.
The Cup also gives Samsung content it can reuse beyond Gamescom: rather than simply claiming that the phone handles demanding games, it can point to an international tournament played entirely on the device.
