Pure Crime: Gangster Shooting enters testing as Miniclip explores a GTA-style mobile world

Miniclip's Derby operation is testing Pure Crime: Gangster Shooting across the United Kingdom, Canada and the Philippines on iOS and Android. The project takes the company into open-world crime territory, combining shooting and urban gameplay in a category currently attracting renewed interest from mobile publishers. Miniclip is traditionally associated with highly accessible games such as 8 Ball Pool, making Pure Crime a considerably more ambitious technical proposition.

Open-world design requires a continuous supply of missions, vehicles, NPC behaviour and environmental detail, all of which need to run acceptably across a huge range of Android hardware. Testing in Canada and the UK gives the developer useful Western-market signals while the Philippines provides exposure to a large mobile-first player base with substantially different device profiles. The timing is also notable because Gangstar Mirage City and Garena Free City are pursuing similar audiences.

That creates the possibility of a new competitive wave around mobile crime sandboxes. Pure Crime will need a strong identity beyond familiar gangster imagery if it is to stand out once these projects expand.
