Feral Interactive is preparing to release Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris on iOS and Android on September 8, with pre-registration currently open. The mobile edition brings the 2014 cooperative action-adventure to smartphones and tablets with twin-stick controls adapted for touchscreens. Temple of Osiris differs from the main Tomb Raider series by using an isometric perspective and a stronger emphasis on puzzles, combat and cooperative play.
That structure may actually translate particularly well to mobile because the fixed viewpoint avoids many of the camera-control problems associated with full third-person action games. Feral Interactive has built a strong reputation for technically ambitious mobile ports, demonstrating that smartphones can support complex premium games when interfaces are redesigned rather than simply copied.
The release also arrives during a period when major PC and console publishers are once again paying greater attention to premium mobile conversions. If Temple of Osiris performs well commercially, it strengthens the argument that recognizable catalogue games can find meaningful second lives on phones without being rebuilt as free-to-play services.
