Supercell has formally signed its agreement to acquire Metacore, bringing the Finnish developer behind Merge Mansion under the Clash of Clans maker's umbrella. The transaction is expected to close at the end of September, with financial terms undisclosed. The acquisition matters because Merge Mansion is one of mobile gaming's most durable modern puzzle successes and helped popularize the merge genre at scale. Mobilegamer.biz estimates the title has generated roughly $540 million since launch, including around $7.
7 million during the most recent 30-day period. Supercell and Metacore already have a close relationship, making full ownership a logical next step. Strategically, the deal broadens Supercell beyond its traditional competitive and midcore strengths and adds a major female-skewing casual property to its portfolio. Metacore gains access to Supercell's resources while retaining a game with years of live-service potential. The bigger question is how much autonomy Metacore will keep once the integration is complete.
Supercell's strongest studio relationships generally depend on small independent teams, so preserving the culture that created Merge Mansion could prove more valuable than forcing tighter central control.
