Gemini Live Guided Vision expands AI accessibility across Android

Google is bringing Guided Vision to Gemini Live, allowing a phone camera to provide voice-guided descriptions of objects, labels and environments. The feature can help users read small print, understand menus in dim lighting or locate objects around them. If the camera is pointed incorrectly, Gemini can instruct the user to pan, reframe or centre the relevant object. Guided Vision is designed particularly with accessibility in mind and can be reached through TalkBack or configured as an accessibility shortcut.

Unlike several newer Android features, it is planned for devices running Android 9 or later in markets where Gemini is available, giving it an unusually large potential installed base. The broader significance lies in how generative AI is moving into real-time sensory assistance. Instead of asking a chatbot abstract questions, users can point the camera at a physical situation and receive contextual guidance.

Reliability will be crucial because accessibility tools need predictable behaviour, but the practical value is considerably greater than many novelty-driven AI features.
