Phil Schiller steps back as Eddy Cue takes greater App Store responsibility

Apple is restructuring leadership around the App Store as longtime executive Phil Schiller steps back from major responsibilities. Services chief Eddy Cue will take greater oversight, while Carson Oliver remains the operational App Store lead and other senior staff report into the reorganized structure. The timing is significant because the App Store is one of Apple's most commercially important and politically sensitive businesses.

Regulators across Europe, the United States and other markets continue scrutinizing commissions, payment rules and alternative distribution. Schiller was closely associated with Apple's defence of the existing model through years of legal and regulatory disputes. A leadership change does not automatically mean a policy shift, but it gives Eddy Cue greater influence over a marketplace tightly linked to Apple's services strategy.

Developers will therefore watch for changes in store economics, discovery tools and enforcement practices. With John Ternus also taking over as CEO, Apple is entering September with unusually broad executive turnover across both hardware and services.
