Xiaomi's Redmi 17 5G is scheduled to launch today in India with specifications built around two increasingly important midrange priorities: a large display and an unusually large battery. Current launch information points to a 6.9-inch 120Hz screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processing and approximately 7,900mAh of battery capacity with 45W charging. The combination shows how quickly specifications once associated with enthusiast devices are moving down the price ladder.

A 120Hz display is now becoming routine even outside the flagship segment, while battery capacities approaching 8,000mAh are increasingly common among Chinese brands. Xiaomi's challenge is differentiation. Realme, Vivo, Poco, Infinix and others are launching similarly aggressive devices within days of one another, forcing buyers to compare software support, cameras and after-sales service rather than headline numbers alone.

Redmi remains one of India's most established smartphone brands, giving the new model a large retail and online distribution advantage as the country's busy September hardware cycle gets underway.
