Xiaomi schedules 18 Fold debut for September 7 ahead of Apple's event

Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the 18 Fold on September 7, placing its first passport-style foldable directly into the industry's most crowded launch week. The date comes only two days before Apple's September 9 event, where Apple's own first book-style folding iPhone is widely expected to dominate attention. Xiaomi's timing appears deliberately confrontational.

The 18 Fold is expected to use the company's Xring O3 processor and CXMT LPDDR6 memory, making the device notable both for its physical form and its increasing reliance on Chinese-developed components. Passport-style foldables use shorter and wider proportions than many existing book-style devices, potentially creating a more natural phone shape when closed while still providing tablet-like space when opened.

Xiaomi must compete not only with Apple but with Samsung, Honor and Huawei, all of which have years of experience optimizing foldable hinges and software.
