Garena Free City continues registering downloads beyond its original Argentine test, with activity now appearing in the Philippines and additional smaller markets. The Free Fire publisher is attempting to build a large urban open-world action game for phones, a category that has become technically feasible only as mainstream mobile processors have grown dramatically more capable.

Free City combines city exploration, vehicles, missions and crime-themed action in a format clearly aimed at players interested in GTA-style freedom. The bigger challenge is not merely graphics. A believable mobile city requires streaming technology, traffic, pedestrians, mission logic, responsive driving and combat while running across an enormous spectrum of Android hardware.

Garena's operational experience in Southeast Asia and Latin America gives it a strong advantage because those are precisely the regions where device diversity is greatest. Competition is also increasing, including Gameloft's Gangstar Mirage City and other ambitious Chinese open-world projects. The expanding test should reveal whether Free City can maintain performance and variety at scale rather than simply producing impressive screenshots.
