Vivo confirms OriginOS 7 reveal for September 16

Vivo has confirmed that OriginOS 7, its next major Android interface, will debut in China on September 16 during the Vivo Developer Conference. The operating system is based on Android 17 and will arrive alongside BlueOS 4, Vivo's platform for watches, IoT hardware and connected-home devices. Early teasers emphasize a translucent visual language using what Vivo describes as light-and-shadow aesthetics.

The approach reflects a wider 2026 interface trend toward layered glass-like surfaces, richer animation and more contextual AI. The larger story is Vivo treating software as a competitive differentiator rather than relying primarily on camera hardware and charging speeds. As smartphone components become increasingly similar across brands, the operating environment can determine whether users remain loyal.

OriginOS has historically been focused primarily on China while Vivo's international devices use Funtouch OS, so global customers will watch closely for features that eventually cross over.
