Gemini Live Guided Vision expands real-time camera assistance on Android

Google is rolling out Guided Vision through Gemini Live, allowing users to point a phone camera toward objects, labels or surroundings and receive spoken guidance based on what the system sees. Gemini can ask the user to reposition the camera when necessary, describe nearby objects and help interpret small or difficult-to-read text.

Accessibility is one of the clearest applications, particularly for blind and low-vision users, but the feature can also help anyone trying to understand unfamiliar equipment, signage or surroundings. Google says Guided Vision will be available across a broad range of Android devices rather than being limited to the newest Pixel flagships, with support extending to Android 9 in eligible Gemini markets.

Real-time multimodal AI has often been demonstrated through impressive but artificial examples; accessibility provides a far more concrete measure of whether the technology is genuinely useful. Reliability is crucial because inaccurate visual guidance can create more than inconvenience. If Google can make the feature dependable, the smartphone camera effectively becomes a conversational sensor for the physical world.
