Samsung is expanding One UI 9 based on Android 17 across the Galaxy S26 family, with a substantial firmware package introducing interface refinements, AI features and the latest security updates. The rollout arrives as the Galaxy S26 FE becomes available with One UI 9 preinstalled, meaning Samsung is synchronising its existing flagships with the newest Fan Edition software. Major Android updates used to be a persistent weakness for Samsung, with users frequently waiting months behind Google's Pixel devices.

The company has gradually turned that weakness into a competitive advantage through longer support commitments and faster distribution. One UI now carries as much brand identity as the underlying Android version, particularly through Galaxy AI, camera tools, multitasking and Samsung's connected-device services. A large firmware release still requires a careful staged rollout because battery life, modem behaviour and application compatibility can vary by region.

The immediate S26 expansion nevertheless suggests Samsung intends to make Android 17 adoption one of the strengths of its September hardware cycle.
