Garena Free City expands its open-world mobile test

Garena Free City continues appearing in additional markets after initially launching on Android in Argentina, with downloads now also being registered in the Philippines and several smaller territories. The Free Fire publisher is pursuing a GTA-style urban sandbox built specifically around mobile hardware. That is a far more demanding technical proposition than it might appear from screenshots.

A convincing city needs traffic, pedestrians, mission logic, combat, driving and world streaming to work simultaneously while supporting Android devices across radically different performance tiers. Garena's expertise in Southeast Asia and Latin America gives it a meaningful advantage because those are precisely the regions where hardware fragmentation is greatest. Free City is also entering an increasingly crowded field as publishers attempt to bring console-style open worlds to smartphones.

The present expansion remains a soft launch rather than a formal worldwide release. Its value is therefore diagnostic: Garena can identify where devices overheat, memory usage spikes, networks fail or players abandon the experience before exposing the game to a much larger audience.
