Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble continues its expanding regional test, with developer Oh BiBi confirming availability in France and tracking data showing activity in Denmark, Finland, Indonesia, Norway, Sweden and the Philippines. Pre-registration has also opened. Rather than attempting to reproduce a traditional Ratchet & Clank console campaign, Ranger Rumble reworks the franchise as a multiplayer platform arena shooter. That distinction is central to Sony's mobile strategy.
PlayStation possesses an enormous library of recognizable characters, but successful smartphone adaptations need to feel native to touchscreens and shorter sessions rather than like reduced versions of console games. Oh BiBi brings experience designing competitive mobile experiences, while Sony contributes a franchise whose characters and weapons are already familiar to millions. The test should reveal whether the format can attract both existing PlayStation fans and players with little connection to the series.
If it succeeds, Ranger Rumble could provide a template for using PlayStation IP more aggressively in mobile-native genres.
