TCL P80 Ultra brings NXTPAPER eye-comfort technology to OLED

TCL's P80 Ultra is one of the more technically interesting smartphones arriving from IFA because it combines the company's NXTPAPER display treatment with an OLED panel for the first time. The 6.83-inch screen offers a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,200 nits peak brightness while retaining the glare-reduction and eye-comfort positioning associated with NXTPAPER. A dedicated hardware control can switch the phone into Max Ink Mode, creating a stripped-down monochrome experience closer to an e-reader.

TCL says that mode can stretch the 5,800mAh battery dramatically. The Ultra also uses MediaTek's Dimensity 7400 Elite platform, includes a 50-megapixel main camera and a 3x telephoto, and supports 45W charging. Smartphone processors are increasingly difficult to differentiate at ordinary usage levels, so display technology offers TCL a credible alternative battleground.

If NXTPAPER OLED genuinely improves long reading sessions without making normal content look compromised, it could give the brand something far more valuable than another benchmark advantage.
