Moto Snap brings 30W Qi2.2 magnetic charging into Motorola's ecosystem

Motorola's new Moto Snap wireless charger is another sign that magnetic charging is becoming a standard part of the broader Android hardware landscape rather than something associated mainly with Apple's MagSafe ecosystem. Announced during Motorola's IFA 2026 programme, the charger uses the Qi2.2 standard and supports wireless charging at up to 30W on compatible hardware. A 1.5-metre USB-C cable is included, alongside protection features for heat and power irregularities.

Magnetic alignment solves one of wireless charging's most annoying everyday weaknesses: devices can appear to be sitting correctly on a pad while the coils are actually misaligned. Qi2-style magnets make placement repeatable and open the door to a wider accessory market involving stands, vehicle mounts and battery packs. Motorola pairing the charger with its latest phones also demonstrates how Android brands are increasingly embracing standards-based magnetic accessories rather than proprietary solutions.

That should ultimately benefit users if cases and chargers remain compatible across multiple manufacturers rather than fragmenting into separate ecosystems.
