Xiaomi is giving IFA visitors their first real look at the Xiaomi 18 Fold before its formal Chinese launch on September 7. The device uses a shorter, wider folding format rather than the tall proportions associated with earlier book-style foldables. Reported dimensions include a 5.38-inch cover display opening into a 7.58-inch internal screen. The most strategically important component is inside: Xiaomi says the 18 Fold is its first flagship powered by the company's next-generation XRing O3 processor.
It also uses next-generation LPDDR6 memory from Chinese manufacturer CXMT. That combination makes the Fold as much a semiconductor statement as a new phone. Xiaomi is trying to reduce its dependence on outside chip suppliers while simultaneously entering the most technically demanding part of the smartphone market. The September 7 launch also places the device directly inside an unusually busy premium-phone week.
Full specifications and pricing remain to be announced, so IFA is functioning as a preview rather than the final product reveal.
