Xiaomi's first major IFA exhibition is far larger than a conventional smartphone booth. The company is showing more than 380 products across approximately 3,300 square metres, bringing together phones, smart-home devices, personal technology, artificial intelligence and vehicles under its Human x Car x Home strategy. HyperOS acts as the connective tissue.
Xiaomi's demonstrations emphasize devices sharing context so that information gathered in one part of a user's day can influence another, such as home settings responding to travel behaviour. This is where mobile competition is increasingly heading. A phone's processor or camera can be matched quickly by another manufacturer, while an ecosystem involving hundreds of cooperating products is much harder to reproduce. Xiaomi's scale in appliances gives it an unusual advantage compared with phone-only brands.
The company is also expanding its Mijia smart-home products in Europe. IFA provides an ideal venue for this argument because consumers can physically see the breadth of the ecosystem rather than encountering each product through separate online launches.
