TCL P80 Ultra brings NXTPAPER technology to OLED for the first time

TCL has officially unveiled the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro at IFA 2026, introducing what the company describes as the first OLED implementation of its NXTPAPER display technology. NXTPAPER has traditionally been associated with glare reduction and paper-like eye comfort, while OLED delivers the deep contrast, response times and brightness expected from premium smartphones. Combining the two lets TCL differentiate through something consumers can immediately see rather than another processor specification.

The P80 Ultra uses a 6.83-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and high peak brightness, while a dedicated Max Ink Mode can simplify the display into a monochrome, e-reader-style experience designed to reduce distraction and extend battery life. The concept is especially relevant as phones increasingly double as reading devices. TCL's challenge is ensuring the eye-comfort layer does not compromise colour accuracy, brightness or efficiency during normal use.

If the implementation works, display experience could become a much more meaningful selling point than another incremental benchmark improvement.
