The current wave of soft launches from Blizzard, Garena, Fingersoft, Century Games, Miniclip and others demonstrates how thoroughly mobile development has moved away from the idea of one definitive launch day. Games can now spend months in selected countries while publishers study onboarding, progression, monetisation, server health and sometimes the underlying genre itself. Overwatch Rush is testing whether Blizzard's heroes work in a top-down shooter.

Hill Climb Racing 3 is learning how real-time competition changes a physics-driven classic. Garena Free City is testing whether an ambitious open world can operate across ordinary Android hardware. Century Games is effectively running portfolio auditions across multiple prototypes. Some projects will change dramatically and others may disappear entirely. That does not necessarily indicate failure. Killing a weak concept during soft launch can save tens of millions in global marketing expenditure.

For players and developers, the process also creates a rare window into design decisions while they are still being made. The mobile industry's most important development environment is increasingly the live market itself.
