Xiaomi's Pad 9 Pro Max also reaches its scheduled launch today, giving the company's XRING O3 processor its first major tablet platform. The flagship Android tablet uses a 13.3-inch 3.4K display with a productivity-friendly 3:2 aspect ratio and is being positioned as much more than a media-consumption device. Xiaomi says the USB-C implementation can allow the tablet to function as a secondary PC monitor, digital drawing surface or larger gaming display.
The XRing O3 uses a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, while HyperOS 4 has been optimised for large-screen workflows and PC-style applications. Pre-launch information also points to configurations up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, a battery above 10,000mAh and 120W charging. The important question is software. Android tablet hardware has become extremely powerful, but productivity still depends on applications that properly use large displays, keyboards and multitasking.
Xiaomi is clearly trying to push the Pad series closer to laptop territory rather than simply competing on screen size.
