Motorola Qira tries to make personal AI follow users across devices

Lenovo and Motorola are using IFA 2026 to push Qira as a persistent personal AI layer connecting smartphones, PCs, tablets and wearables. Rather than treating AI as a chatbot that lives inside one application, the companies want users to continue tasks and retrieve information as they move between hardware. Qira is already available on selected Lenovo systems and is expected to expand onto more Motorola smartphones with Android 17.

Integrations with services including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Slack, Outlook and Notion are intended to give the assistant access to the tools people already use rather than forcing them into a separate ecosystem. Lenovo is also emphasising a local-first privacy approach, keeping processing and stored context on-device when possible.

The concept is strategically important because personal AI becomes more useful when it remembers context across devices, but that same continuity creates greater privacy risks. Qira therefore needs both strong permissions controls and genuine convenience. If successful, it could help Lenovo and Motorola differentiate through software rather than competing purely on hardware specifications.
