Epic Games has launched Epic Parties, allowing users to maintain voice conversations across Fortnite, the Epic Games Store and Epic's mobile applications. A conversation can begin on a phone, continue while the mobile app is running in the background and then transfer to another device without dropping audio. Players joining an Epic Party can also be placed into the same Fortnite lobby automatically when they launch the game.

The feature is strategically significant because Epic is building a social layer that sits above individual games rather than remaining trapped inside Fortnite. Mobile devices become particularly important in that model because a smartphone can function as the persistent communication hub even when players switch between console and PC experiences. Epic plans to extend social avatars beyond Fortnite and eventually make more of these tools available to external developers across stores and game engines.

In practical terms, Epic is moving closer to platforms such as Discord, Xbox and PlayStation, where identity, friends and communication remain available regardless of which game the user is currently playing.
