Transformers: Eternal War is now one week from its September 15 worldwide release on iOS and Android. Published by Wanda Cinemas Games in partnership with Hasbro, the tactical RPG uses an original story written by veteran Transformers comic author Simon Furman. Autobots and Decepticons temporarily unite against the Chaos Legion, creating an excuse for players to build mixed rosters around familiar characters from both factions.
Battles use five-unit formations divided among Vanguard, Assault, Firepower, Recon and Support roles, while additional character traits create synergy bonuses. Outside combat, players develop facilities aboard the Ark to produce resources and strengthen their collection. Eternal War has already gone through regional testing in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the Philippines, allowing its developers to tune progression before exposing the game to a much larger audience.
Transformers provides enormous initial recognition, but mobile RPG players are increasingly difficult to retain. The decisive question will be whether Eternal War's tactical systems remain interesting after the excitement of collecting famous robots wears off.
