Xiaomi 18 Fold puts Arm's neural-rendering GPU into a mainstream flagship

The newly launched Xiaomi 18 Fold contains one of the most important mobile-gaming hardware developments of September: Arm's Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU with dedicated neural-rendering acceleration. Arm has spent years developing technology that uses AI to reconstruct higher-resolution imagery and generate additional frames rather than asking the GPU to render every pixel conventionally. The approach resembles technologies such as Nvidia DLSS on PCs.

Arm says combining neural super-resolution, frame-rate upscaling and denoising can deliver dramatic effective performance gains while keeping power consumption under control. Early demonstrations claim sustained 1080p 60fps gaming around a 2.5-watt graphics budget in suitable workloads. Xiaomi's XRing O3 processor is the first major platform carrying the architecture, giving the 18 Fold significance well beyond foldable-phone design.

Super-resolution arrives first, while some frame-generation and denoising functionality will mature later. If Unity and Unreal Engine developers adopt the tools broadly, AI-assisted rendering could become one of the biggest changes to smartphone graphics in years.
