ASUS launches a quad-band Wi-Fi 8 gaming router as mobile networking moves forward

ASUS ROG has launched the Rapture GT-BN98, promoted as the first commercially available quad-band Wi-Fi 8 gaming router. Although routers sit outside the smartphone itself, network performance has become a fundamental part of mobile gaming as more titles rely on persistent multiplayer, cloud streaming and cross-platform ecosystems.

The GT-BN98 targets aggregate wireless capacity around 30Gbps and includes high-speed wired connectivity for homes where phones, handhelds, PCs and consoles are all competing for bandwidth. Wi-Fi 8 is expected to focus heavily on reliability and consistent latency rather than simply chasing headline throughput. That matters for gaming because a stable connection is often more valuable than a theoretical peak speed reached only under ideal conditions.

Early Wi-Fi 8 equipment will remain expensive and most current phones cannot exploit every feature, but flagship networking products establish the infrastructure that later becomes mainstream. For mobile players, the next networking generation may ultimately be most noticeable through fewer interruptions rather than dramatically faster download tests.
