Playdigious has announced that acclaimed roguelite beat-'em-up Absolum will launch on iOS and Android on November 5. The mobile edition is being rebuilt around touchscreen play while retaining controller support, cloud saves and the complete premium game. Importantly, it will use a traditional buy-once model rather than introducing energy systems or free-to-play microtransactions. Absolum comes from Dotemu, Guard Crush Games and Supamonks, with Guard Crush previously helping create Streets of Rage 4.
The game mixes arcade-style side-scrolling combat with run-based roguelite progression, making it a natural fit for shorter mobile sessions while still offering substantial long-term replay value. Android players will also receive Google Play Games-based cross-progression with PC. The announcement is another encouraging sign for premium mobile gaming.
Modern smartphones can comfortably run increasingly sophisticated PC and console titles, and publishers such as Playdigious and Feral Interactive are demonstrating that mobile ports do not necessarily need to be redesigned around aggressive monetisation. Pre-registration is now open.
