Epic Games' newly launched Epic Parties feature is increasingly important for mobile because it allows voice conversations to follow users between Fortnite, the Epic Games Store and Epic's mobile applications. A chat can begin on a smartphone, remain active with the application running in the background and then move to another device without forcing the group to reconnect. Players in the same party can also enter Fortnite lobbies together automatically.

The feature resembles the cross-game social infrastructure traditionally associated with Discord, Xbox and PlayStation rather than a single game's voice chat. Smartphones are central to that strategy because almost every player has one available even when they are gaming elsewhere. Epic has indicated that additional social elements could eventually extend beyond Fortnite and become available to outside developers.

That would turn the Epic account into a persistent gaming identity across multiple products rather than simply a store login, strengthening the company's broader ecosystem ambitions.
