Xiaomi has also launched the Pad 9 Pro Max, extending the XRing O3 processor into a large-screen Android tablet. The device uses a 13.3-inch 3.4K display and is designed to function as more than a media-consumption screen, with keyboard, stylus and PC-style productivity use cases forming a major part of its positioning. Sharing the same internally developed processor family across smartphones and tablets gives Xiaomi greater opportunity to optimise HyperOS behaviour across screen sizes.
Android tablet hardware has become extremely powerful, but software remains the decisive challenge. A large display provides limited advantage when applications simply stretch interfaces originally designed for phones. Xiaomi therefore needs strong multitasking, window management and application adaptation if the Pad 9 Pro Max is going to compete seriously with laptops and iPads.
The tablet's launch alongside the 18 Fold suggests Xiaomi increasingly views processors, operating systems, phones and tablets as one coordinated platform rather than separate product categories.
