Motorola is also expanding its accessory ecosystem through Moto Snap, a magnetic wireless charger based on the Qi2.2 standard. Compatible Motorola devices can charge at up to 30W while magnets keep the phone properly aligned with the charging coil. Alignment sounds like a minor convenience, but it addresses one of conventional wireless charging's persistent weaknesses: users can place a handset slightly off-centre and unknowingly reduce efficiency or interrupt charging completely.

Apple's MagSafe demonstrated how a magnetic attachment system can also support stands, vehicle mounts, battery packs and other accessories. Qi2's larger significance is that Android manufacturers can create similar ecosystems around an industry standard rather than proprietary connections. Over time, that could allow customers to change smartphone brands without replacing every magnetic accessory they own.

Motorola's support therefore contributes to a broader Android transition in which magnetic charging becomes an expected platform capability rather than a feature associated primarily with iPhones.
