Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit looms over Android's next flagship generation

Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit begins September 22, giving Android hardware enthusiasts another major chip event only one week after MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro reveal. Qualcomm is expected to introduce its next flagship Snapdragon platform with a new generation of Oryon CPU cores, upgraded Adreno graphics and more capable on-device AI acceleration. The stakes are unusually high.

Apple has moved to 2nm A20 Pro, MediaTek is becoming increasingly aggressive at the premium end, Huawei continues developing Kirin processors and Xiaomi has its own XRing programme. Qualcomm therefore cannot rely simply on being the default premium Android supplier. Manufacturers increasingly care about efficiency, sustained gaming performance, camera processing and AI inference rather than peak synthetic benchmarks.

Snapdragon Summit should also provide clues about which manufacturers will launch the first wave of next-generation Android flagships. The competitive landscape for smartphone silicon has rarely been this crowded.
