Neural rendering emerges as mobile gaming's next graphics battleground

AI-assisted graphics are becoming one of the most important technologies in the next generation of mobile processors. Arm's latest Mali architecture integrates neural hardware capable of supporting super-resolution, frame-generation and denoising techniques similar in concept to technologies already transforming PC gaming.

Rather than rendering every pixel at native resolution through brute force, a phone can render a less demanding image and use machine-learning models to reconstruct greater detail or generate additional frames. The advantage is particularly significant on smartphones, where battery capacity and heat place hard limits on traditional GPU scaling. MediaTek is also highlighting AI rendering ahead of the Dimensity 9600 Pro launch.

If major engines such as Unity and Unreal make implementation straightforward, developers could deliver noticeably smoother and richer games without doubling power consumption. The technique will require careful tuning to avoid visual artefacts and input latency, but neural rendering could become one of the biggest improvements in mobile graphics this decade.
