Galaxy Watch 4 reaches the end of Samsung software support

Samsung has officially removed the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic from its supported-device schedule, ending software and security updates for the watches after roughly five years. The milestone is historically important because the Watch 4 generation marked Samsung's move from its own Tizen wearable platform to the jointly developed Wear OS 3, helping revive Google's smartwatch ecosystem.

Existing watches will continue functioning, but newly discovered security vulnerabilities and future Wear OS features will no longer be addressed. Samsung's oldest actively supported models are now from the Galaxy Watch 5 generation. End-of-support announcements rarely attract the attention of flashy hardware launches, but they increasingly matter as wearables handle payments, authentication and sensitive health data.

Consumers choosing a smartwatch are therefore buying not just sensors and battery life but a software-maintenance commitment. The Watch 4's retirement provides a clear reference point for how long Samsung currently considers that commitment to last.
