Game of Thrones: Dragonfire Adds Meleys the Red Queen and Princess Rhaenys

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire has expanded its mobile strategy roster with Meleys, the Red Queen, arriving alongside Princess Rhaenys Targaryen as a new playable faction leader. The September 23 update gives players another route into the Targaryen side of Westerosi power politics, where having an enormous dragon remains a remarkably effective substitute for persuasive diplomacy.

Meleys is one of the franchise's most recognisable dragons from the Dance of the Dragons era, and pairing her with Rhaenys provides the mobile game with a character combination already familiar to viewers of House of the Dragon. For a licensed strategy title, additions like this do more than increase a roster number: they give players new thematic reasons to build around particular houses, leaders and combat approaches while letting the live service follow the broader popularity of HBO's universe.

Dragonfire's challenge is the one faced by every Game of Thrones game: translating a setting built around treachery, politics and catastrophic family decisions into repeatable systems that remain entertaining after the shock value has worn off. Fortunately, adding a giant red dragon is one of the safer design decisions available. Strategy can become extremely complicated. 'Bring Meleys' is reassuringly easy to understand.
