Aniimo Charges Into the Top Five Across Four Major App Store Markets

New creature-collecting RPG Aniimo has made a notably strong early appearance on Apple's free-game charts. A September 25 snapshot placed the recently launched game inside the top five in South Korea, the United States, Japan and Taiwan simultaneously - number two in Korea, four in the US, three in Japan and five in Taiwan. That does not translate directly into downloads or revenue, but it does show broad initial interest rather than success concentrated in a single territory.

Aniimo combines open-world exploration with collecting and raising its titular creatures, placing it squarely in a genre where comparisons with Pokémon arrive approximately three seconds after somebody reveals the first colourful monster. The more useful observation is geographical: charting strongly across several very different mobile markets suggests the game's visual language and premise are travelling well. Early user ratings are more mixed, so the next question is whether curiosity converts into retention.

Mobile launches can produce spectacular first weekends; surviving the following month is where the considerably less photogenic work begins.
