RedMagic 12 Pro Leads the Gaming Phones Confirmed for Qualcomm's New Elite Chips

The first wave of phones using Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 family is taking shape, and mobile gamers have a particularly obvious name to watch: RedMagic 12 Pro. Nubia's gaming-focused handset is confirmed to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 when it launches in early November. Motorola's Signature 27 and Honor's Magic 9 Pro Max are also confirmed for the Extreme chip, while Xiaomi will split the standard and Extreme variants across its 18 Pro family.

The performance-focused iQOO 16 and Pad Ultra are joining the new Snapdragon generation as well, with a September 29 launch planned. The interesting part for gaming is no longer just peak processor speed. Qualcomm is pushing sustained performance, AI-assisted graphics and improved thermal behaviour, and dedicated gaming phones such as RedMagic are the devices most likely to exploit those features aggressively with active cooling and performance modes.

In other words, benchmark season is coming, followed shortly by the traditional ceremony of discovering which phone can maintain those numbers after twenty minutes.
