Key takeaways

  • Lilith Games and Disney have opened Chinese pre-registration for Zootopia Adventure across mobile and PC.
  • The project is a social life-sim RPG allowing players to live in the city and interact with its anthropomorphic residents rather than a simple puzzle spin-off.
  • Lilith's live-service expertise from AFK Arena and Rise of Kingdoms brings substantial development weight to the Disney IP.

Lilith Games has opened Chinese pre-registration for Zootopia Adventure, a new officially licensed life-sim RPG based on Disney's animal metropolis. The game is heading to mobile and PC and appears considerably more ambitious than simply asking players to match three carrots while Judy Hopps smiles encouragingly from the corner.

Players will be able to create a life inside Zootopia, interact with its anthropomorphic residents and explore a city built around the film's unusually fertile premise of different species sharing one enormous urban environment. Lilith is an interesting studio to put behind the project. The company is best known internationally for games such as AFK Arena and Rise of Kingdoms, meaning it understands both large mobile audiences and the long-term live-service machinery required to keep them occupied.

The Chinese pre-registration phase does not yet establish a global release date, so international players should keep expectations parked rather than running immediately to the App Store. Still, Zootopia is almost suspiciously well suited to a social life simulator: the films already provide districts, professions, shops, characters and a population of animals with dramatically different lifestyles.

In other words, much of the world-building work normally required to invent a cosy virtual society was done before anybody wrote the first line of game code.
