Key takeaways

  • Global App Store and Google Play mobile game spending totaled $6.57 billion in August 2026, alongside 3.76 billion total downloads.
  • Honor of Kings was the highest-grossing mobile game worldwide, followed by Gossip Harbor, Whiteout Survival, and Royal Match.
  • The US drove 28.6% of worldwide spending, while India led global downloads with 614 million game installations.

Fresh reporting around Sensor Tower's August figures puts global App Store and Google Play mobile-game consumer spending at $6.57 billion, down roughly one percent month-on-month but still equivalent to an astonishing amount of money spent making virtual numbers increase. Honor of Kings remained the world's highest-grossing mobile game, while Gossip Harbor, Whiteout Survival, Royal Match and Candy Crush Saga completed the top five.

Fate/Grand Order recorded the strongest revenue growth, helped by its 11th anniversary and summer content in Japan. Downloads moved in the opposite direction to spending, increasing about one percent to 3.76 billion installations. Roblox led worldwide downloads, followed by Free Fire, Block Blast and Subway Surfers. India generated 614 million downloads, making it the largest installation market, while the United States remained the biggest spending territory with 28.6 percent of global revenue.

The figures neatly illustrate mobile gaming's enormous split personality: one side is driven by vast emerging-market download volumes, the other by mature markets spending extraordinary sums inside a comparatively small collection of persistent games. Everybody has a phone; what they do with it remains wonderfully inconsistent.
