Solitaire World Tour Lands on Android and Turns Klondike Wins Into Plane Tickets

Solo developer oneWheat has released the Android version of Solitaire World Tour today, following the game's September 19 iOS debut. The premise takes one of digital gaming's most indestructible formats and gives it a travel itinerary: players work through Klondike solitaire hands to earn coins that become plane tickets across 34 illustrated cities in Japan and Korea.

The destinations are presented with watercolour-style artwork, giving progression a pleasant sense of going somewhere rather than merely watching a level counter increase. It is an elegantly small idea, but also a good example of why solitaire continues surviving every technological revolution thrown at it.

The fundamental card game needs no elaborate tutorial, works perfectly in short sessions and does not require players to memorise the political history of six fantasy kingdoms before moving a red seven onto a black eight. Adding a geographic journey gives habitual play a longer-term structure without turning solitaire into a resource-management simulator wearing a deck of cards as camouflage.
