Capcom has finally put a date on one of mobile gaming's more ambitious upcoming releases: Monster Hunter Outlanders launches worldwide on iOS and Android on October 29. Developed by TiMi Studio Group in collaboration with Capcom, Outlanders is a free-to-play survival-hunting action game built specifically for mobile rather than a straight port of an existing Monster Hunter. Players explore large environments, gather resources, hunt monsters and travel with companions recruited from different regions.
The developers are also offering two control approaches, which matters enormously when you are trying to translate a series built around deliberate attacks, dodges and enormous angry reptiles onto a slab of glass. The Mainland China version is planned separately from 2027 onward. Capcom's decision to give Outlanders a full global mobile launch is another sign of how seriously major Japanese publishers now treat phones as primary gaming platforms, particularly in Asia.
The real test will be whether TiMi can preserve Monster Hunter's wonderfully physical combat without drowning it in touchscreen compromises or free-to-play housekeeping.
