Terraria+ arrives on Apple Arcade today carrying the substantial version 1.4.5 Bigger & Boulder content. The Arcade edition includes crossover material from Dead Cells and Palworld, alongside new gear, furniture, mounts, weapons, critters and a Skyblock world seed. Multiplayer supports up to seven friends through Game Center or local Wi-Fi.

Terraria hardly needs rescuing from obscurity - Re-Logic's sandbox has been finding new places for people to dig holes since 2011 - but the Arcade release is significant because it packages the mature mobile game inside Apple's subscription with no advertising or in-app purchases. It also demonstrates just how enormous Terraria has become while continuing to resemble a charming 2D game about hitting trees.

More than 5,000 items, over 400 enemies, dozens of biomes and years of accumulated systems now sit behind that deceptively simple pixel-art exterior. The Dead Cells and Palworld crossovers make today's version particularly attractive to returning players, although anyone launching Terraria for a 'quick look' should remember that geological excavation is famously bad at respecting calendars. Apple Arcade has added a game today; productivity software has lost an old enemy.
